Photography - Hurricane Katrina

The hurricanes of the my generation—Betsy ’65, Camille ’69, Andrew ’92, Katrina ’05, Rita ’05, Gustav ’08, Ike ’08—continue to elicit memories of their impact and remind us how nature's power transforms our lives and place. A box of nearly forgotten photographs renewed my affection for New Orleans and its people, and became yet another book on Hurricane Katrina. There may be thousands more photographs waiting to be found representing the experience of residents of the city. In the future, those photographs may come to light like those in this book. In an introductory essay and over a hundred photographs, this book presents an experience of destruction and transformation both personal and of New Orleans, begun by the storm.
