Do you sometimes feel irritated by the following questions about your paintings, drawings, photography, music, poetry, needlepoint: “What is your process?” “What is your practice?” Are you sometimes irritated by the following vocabulary: "intersection," "navigate," "identity," "GRAPPLE," "explore," "space," "juxtaposition," "quantum field fluctuations," "vocabulary"? That’s because these questions and words are part of the discourse (there’s another one) of art departments, museums, and galleries. BORING. The artist of any medium may certainly be interested in these questions and words--AFTER THE FACT of making something from the UNKNOWABLE DEPTHS filtered up through some skill, and only as long as they stand (obliquely) outside that establishment junta.
